The continuously growing demand for primary raw materials (e.g. copper, gold, zinc, coal) is necessitating the development and operation of ever larger and more remote mines. In order to ensure more efficient, cost-optimized operation, power-electronic drives, some of which have capacities of more than 25 MW per drive unit, are being used more frequently.
