ELECTRONIC Power Compensation

With electronic compensation it is possible to compensate inductive, capacitive and harmonic reactive power. In addition, it is possible to eliminate imbalances in the flows phase. This creates extra power space, limits energy losses and prevents fines and claims.

Static Var Generator Active PFC

Static Var Generator(SVG) compensates reactive power caused by inductive or capacitive loads. SVG is sometimes called an active power factor compensator (APFC). The reason for this is that SVG reactive power is provided by means of electronics, as opposed to traditional capacitor banks, which can only compensate in fixed step sizes due to the use of passive components.

Static Var Generator is the new product which has rewritten the conventional approach of power factor correction. It is designed to compensatre the rapid reactive power requirement, thereby improving the power factor and consequentyly reducing the costs. Stepless SVG monitors the current signal and utilizes three level inverter topology which generates the reactive part of the measured current to compensate dynamically in order to improve the power factor. It can dynamically compensate power factor from -1 to 1.

The Static VAR Generator (SVG) and Active Harmonic Filter (AHF) from ZDDQ are based on 3-level IGBT technology. This has resulted in compact units with a low weight suitable for wall, rack mounting or free landing cabinet. With the user-friendly color screen, the models are easy to operate.

Capacitor banks and Static Var Generator

Traditional capacitor bank response is stepped, which means there is almost always too little or too much compensation. A key advantage of Static Var Generator is the fact that it provides exactly the right amount of reactive power at all times. The reaction time of SVG is in the order of milliseconds. This means reactive inrush currents of motors can be fed, which reduces the chance of voltage dips.

Static Var Generator is also capable of compensating capacitive grids – something a traditional capacitor bank cannot do. Unkike a traditional capacitor bank, SVG can also compensate for capacitive grids. In today’s office buildings and laboratories, the power grid is becoming increasingly capacitive due to the increased uptake of electronics, such as LED lighting, and the decreasing linear load.
